One True God In Three Persons: The Holy Spirit

ONE TRUE GOD IN THREE PERSONS: THE HOLY SPIRIT IS GOD (Isaiah 6:1-3)

Introduction:
1. Isaiah 6:1-3  The Godhead is holy: One person in the Godhead is the Holy Spirit
2. The one true God revealed Himself: The Father; Jesus Christ, The Son; The Holy Spirit
3. The Holy Spirit loves us & works to save us:
   a. The Holy Spirit is a person in the Godhead
   b. The Spirit’s role was to reveal all truth
   c. The Holy Spirit revealed God to man
   d. The Spirit reveals our relationship to God
   e. The Spirit revealed the gospel of Christ

  I.  The Holy Spirit Is a Person in the Godhead

   A. Gen. 1:1-2, 26  He Was Active in Creation
   B. Plural Persons Can Be Distinct Yet United
            1. Gen. 2:24  Husband & wife are one flesh
            2. Acts 17:26  Many nations are of one blood
            3. Jn. 17:21  Many believers are one body
            4. Jn. 17:21 The Father & the Son are one God
   C. Each Divine Person Is Distinct
            1. The Father is a person
            2. The Son is a person
            3. The Holy Spirit is a person
              a. He is not a mysterious divine fog, electricity, or better-felt-than-told emotion
   D. The Spirit Is Directly Referred to as God
            1. Acts 5:3-4 Lying to the Spirit is lying to God

II. The Spirit’s Role Was to Reveal All Truth

   A. Jn. 16:7-13  He Will Convict Men by Truth
            1. The Spirit revealed all truth to the Apostles
            2. By the power of truth he will convict men
              a. Of sin:  love of sin prevents faith in Christ
              b. Of righteousness:  Christ completed God’s plan for our salvation
              c. Of judgment:  Satan’s defeat is certain!

III. The Holy Spirit Revealed God to Man

   A. Acts 17:24, 29  God exists not as an idol
   B. Matt. 28:19  God is one in three persons
   C. Isa. 6:1-3  God is holy, infinite, love, etc.
   D. 1 Cor. 2:9-10  He revealed God’s will

IV. The Spirit Reveals Our Relationship to God

   A. Gen. 1:1, 27  God Created Man in His Image to Know, Love, & Serve Him
   B. Eccl. 12:13-14 We Find Meaning & Purpose in Serving God—We Are Accountable to Him
   C. We Are United to God When We Love & Obey Him:  He Dwells in Us & We in Him
            1. Matt. 28:19  We are baptized into union with one God in three persons
            2. Jn. 17:21 We are united with God in Christ
            3. 1 Cor. 6:19-20  The Spirit dwells in us when we glorify God by obeying Him
            4. We dwell in God & God in us:  spiritual unity & fellowship
               a. The Father, the Son, & the Holy Spirit dwell in Christians
               b. Christians dwell in the Father, the Son, & the Holy Spirit

  V. The Spirit Revealed the Gospel of Christ

   A. Rom. 1:16  The Truth of the Gospel Given by the Spirit Is God’s Power to Save!
   B. Rom. 3:23-26  He Revealed the Basis of Salvation in the Cross of Christ
   C. He Revealed the Conditions of Salvation
            1. Jn. 3:5  The gospel convinces us to believe, repent, confess Christ, & be baptized
            2. Matt. 28:18-20  We must submit in obedient faith to Christ
   D. The Gospel Reveals the Church of Christ
            1. Matt. 16:16-19  The divine Savior-King promised to save & unite men in his church
            2. 1 Tim. 3:14-15  The Spirit gave the pattern for this church in the New Testament
   E. He Teaches Us to Live Holy, Godly Lives
            1. Tit. 2:11-14  God’s grace teaches us the right doctrine & the right life
   F. He Revealed Our Destiny:  Heaven or Hell
            1. Rev. 21:1-8  God prepared heaven for His people, hell for Satan’s followers

Invitation:
